Antoine Griezmann handed Atlético a late equaliser in Real Madrid's dress rehearsal for the Champions League quarter-final first leg away to FC Bayern. The Frenchman levelled the scores with five minutes to go after Pepe had opened the scoring for Real after the restart. Barcelona might draw level on points with Real and move to the top of the standings later on Saturday. However, Real still have a rearranged fixture in hand.
Real boss Zinedine Zidane fielded his best line-up four days before the match in Munich. Pepe replaced the injured Raphael Varane (torn muscle), with former Munich man Toni Kroos taking up station in midfield behind an attacking trident featuring Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo. Pepe had to be replaced after the hour mark with a rib problem.
Assist for Kroos
Real Madrid dominated proceedings at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, creating three gilt-edged chances before the break. Atlético netminder Jan Oblak denied Ronaldo and Benzema before Stefan Savic scrambled another Ronaldo effort off the goal-line. The two Madrid forwards miscued two more finishes early after the restart before a Kroos free-kick invited Pepe to head home.
Dominant Real were looking to extend their lead now, Dani Carvajal missing a presentable chance against Atlético, who were toothless on the break until Fernando Torres drew a fine save from Keylor Navas on the hour.
It seemed the hosts would wrap up the win now, Zidane replacing Kroos and Bale, but Griezmann latched on to a though-ball after 84 minutes and slotted past Navas to secure a point for his side.
Real line-up against Atlético:
Navas - Carvajal, Pepe (Nacho 67), Sergio Ramos, Marcelo - Modric, Casemiro, Kroos (Isco 76) - Bale (Vazquez 81), Benzema, Ronaldo
