Lahm's star unveiled on the Walk of Fame

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Uli Hoeneß, Gerd Müller, Franz Beckenbauer… and Philipp Lahm! The FC Bayern skipper unveiled his star on the Erlebniswelt's Walk of Fame on Monday. "It's a great honour to be up here with these fantastic FC Bayern footballers and personalities," Lahm commented after depositing the championship shield in a display cabinet at the FCB club museum.

"Philipp has earned it," declared Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "He has been at FC Bayern for 22 years and looks back on a great career wth us. He wasn't only a great player, but also a great captain." Besides the star, Rummenigge and president Uli Hoeneß presented Lahm with a traditional Trachtenjanker, a red jacket the club's legends wore on the last matchday.

'Something very special'

"There isn't a better candidate for the Hall of Fame," a proud Hoeneß commented: "Philipp is a fantastic embodiment of the solidity and tradition we have at this club. He was born in Munich, played here in his youth and has gone through everything there is at FC Bayern." A moved Philipp Lahm declared: "I've been at this club since 1995, it's given me so much. It's something very special to be immortalised here."

After the championship celebrations, the farewell parties and the accolades Lahm finally has some time to relax. The skipper aims to "take a step back" for a while. His five-year-old son will keep him on his toes, revealed Lahm, who wants "to play golf and tennis. I've let it slide a bit recently." However, Lahm will occasionally look back on his farewell and especially the last matchday during his holiday: "It was a very, very emotional day for me. I'll remember it for the rest of my life."
