Lahm inducted into FC Bayern Hall of Fame

Philipp Lahm will hold the Bundesliga’s Meisterschale aloft the eighth and final time in his career on Saturday at the Allianz Arena and on the balcony of Munich’s town hall at Marienplatz. A worthy way for our captain to see out his career. The 33-year-old has worn FC Bayern colours for 22 years – including a two-year break at VfB Stuttgart – and has played a massive part in the club’s title success during this time.

In recognition of his performances as a player and captain, FC Bayern Munich has decided that Lahm will be the first player since Oliver Kahn in 2008 to be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame. The long-time FCB and Germany captain, who led the country to World Cup glory in 2014, will therefore stand alongside the greatest and most popular players to have ever played for the record champions – players such as Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Sepp Maier, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Uli Hoeneß, Lothar Matthäus, Giovane Elber and Mehmet Scholl.

“Philipp Lahm is one of the most deserving players in the recent history of FC Bayern. Both on the pitch and off it in his role as captain, he has been a truly important person for the club,” said chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “He deserves this accolade, which puts him up there with the greats of FC Bayern. The club would like to thank Philipp Lahm for the amazing performances he has shown for FC Bayern.”

Credit where credit is due, and Philipp Lahm will be at the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt at the Allianz Arena in the coming days as his signed gold star is unveiled live on the FCB Walk of Fame. The exact time and date for that ceremony will be announced shortly.
