The last final whistle has been blown, the shield is back in Bayern’s hands and the title celebrations are over. Now is the time for a first assessment of the season just gone. “I think it’s been a good season. We won the league by 15 points,” concluded Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in an interview with fcbayern.com.
“That’s proof that we’ve worked well over the whole season. Winning the league isn’t something you do easily,” continued the FCB chairman. The 61 year-old added that things “didn’t go in their favour” in other competitions, but he finds it “excessive to say it hasn’t been a good season.” The majority of the players are now enjoying a well-deserved holiday.
Transfer plans already afoot
For Rummenigge, however, it’s the beginning of an extremely busy period. “We have personnel decisions to make. The transfer activity starts now,” he said. In Niklas Süle and Sebastian Rudy they already have two new signings in place. “Süle has come on really well in the last six months and has also been called up to the Germany squad. He’s a player who’ll make a positive contribution for us in the future.”
As a young German international he meets the requirements for an FCB player, as does Rudy. “He’s one of the players who guaranteed Hoffenheim's qualification for the Champions League.” These two won’t be the only new arrivals in the summer, though. “We’ve already discussed the transfer policy with Carlo and the board and decided on targets,” revealed Rummenigge, who wouldn’t disclose any names but assured the Bayern fans: “Next season we’ll have a team that’s more than capable of challenging for titles again!”
