Chile down Portugal - Vidal into final

Arturo Vidal is in the final of the 2017 Confederations Cup after Chile beat Portugal in the semi-final. After a goalless 120 minutes, the game went down to penalties where the South American champions prevailed 3-0. Vidal was employed in central midfield and provided great impetus to the Chilean play, as well as having the best chance of the evening in the 119th minute.

Clear-cut chances were at a premium in front of 40,855 fans in Kazan. Both sides had opportunities in the early stages as Eduardo Vargas failed to convert before Andre Silva missed at the other end within the opening 10 minutes. The game only really got going again in the second half.

Vidal, Vargas and Cristiano Ronaldo all failed to hit the target after the break and Vidal again was unfortunate in front of goal in extra time before the game went to a penalty shootout. The FCB midfielder stepped up first to convert and put his country on the path to victory, which was then ensured by goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

It all means that Chile are into the final (Sunday, 20:00CEST). Vidal's opponents will be decided in the second semi-final when Germany - including Joshua Kimmich - face Mexico on Thursday.
