Pre-season starts on Saturday

The pitch has been mowed, balls are pumped up and bibs freshly washed. FC Bayern start preparations for the new season on Saturday. After 40 days since the last competitive match, Carlo Ancelotti's squad will be back on the pitch. And the Italian is already thirsty for action.

This photo is the first indication that the 57-year-old is highly motivated and ready to give his all to add to his trophy cabinet. An FCB fans can watch the head coach on Saturday as the training session is open and free of charge. Anybody unable to make the journey to Säbener Strasse can still follow it live as FC Bayern TV will broadcast the training session live on all of the club's media platforms. It will definitely worth looking in as it is not only the first training session for the German Record Champions ahead of the 2017/18 season but also the first session with new assistant coach Willie Sagnol. New signings Serge Gnabry, Sebastian Rudy, Niklas Süle and Correntin Tolisso will not be there. They still have a couple of days holiday as they were on international duty during the summer break.

The rest of the Bayern squad face a busy programme in the coming weeks. Ancelotti is running two training sessions a day from Sunday and there are also several friendly fixtures. The time for rest and recuperation is over. Thomas Müller, Mats Hummels & Co. ("Back in Munich and keen as mustard for football") are already really motivated to get back on the pitch.
