Both Joshua Kimmich and Arturo Vidal took a point on Thursday evening. The 38,222 crowd in Kazan saw the Confed Cup clash between Germany and Chile end in a 1-1 draw. To advance to the last four, both teams need only a draw on Sunday, when Germany encounter Cameroon, whereas Chile take on Australia.

Both Kimmich and Vidal made the starting line-up in the top clash between the world champions and the South American champions. Besides, Sebastian Rudy and Niklas Süle, who will join FC Bayern this summer, started for Germany. Following a bad pass Vidal played a one-two with Alexis Sánchez, the latter tapping in from six yards in the early stages of the contest. Eduardo Vargas almost doubled the lead midway through the first half only for the crossbar to deny him.

Chile pressed high up the field, whereas Germany tried to set up sustained passing combinations, taking three shots within the first 20 minutes. Joachim Löw's troops levelled the scores shortly before half-time, when Emre Can and Jonas Hector set up a fine combination, the latter inviting Lars Stindl to tap in. The second half was long on aggression but short on gilt-edged chances, the game ending in a stalemate.
