He just couldn’t get enough. Even after an arduous training session, James decided to spend some extra time out on the pitch with the ball, firing free-kick after free-kick into the back of the net and joking away with Robert Lewandowski and David Alaba. “I’m really happy here,” explained James Rodriguez just two weeks after joining FC Bayern. “It’s a real harmonious team. My first impressions are really good. I’m really pleased to be here.”

There is one thing the attacker wants with the German record champions: To win titles! “I joined Bayern because it’s a great club. The team is always at the top and challenging for the Champions League. I want to win trophies and hope I can do that with this great team and coach. I want to play my part in it all,” James explained.

Searching for the final pass

“James has great qualities to help us improve our game between the lines,” said his new (and old) coach Carlo Ancelotti in praise. The Italian tactician already worked with the Colombian at Real Madrid, who enjoyed his best season with the current European champions whilst under Ancelotti. The 58-year-old coach knows from first-hand experience that “he can help us with that final pass into our forwards – more often and better.”

There’s still the need for a little bit of fine tuning to optimise the harmony between James and his new teammates, but his integration process is proceeding at a pace. “I feel good,” claimed the 26-year-old. “I’m really motivated. We’ve had a good time together, the atmosphere in the team is super.” To get the best out of himself, James now needs to be in the best possible physical condition and the Colombian is working hard towards that: “I’m improving and am on the right path.”
