Lahm receives 'Personal award of the Bavarian Minister-President'

Great honour for Philipp Lahm! The long-standing captain of FC Bayern will receive a 'Personal award of the Bavarian Minister-President' at the presentation of the Bavarian Sports Award 2017 on 22 July. Lahm, who ended his playing career last season, receives the award for his outstanding achievements during his professional career.

"Philipp Lahm is an outstanding talent in football and an impressive person. His intelligence, strong words, ambition and the right sense of occasion have shaped his career – and he has always remained true to his ideals," said Minister President Horst Seehöfer in paying tribute to the former FCB pro.

Lahm is a "true role model on and off the pitch and not just for all those who dream of a great career in football. Philipp Lahm has always excited us with his performances and is therefore a deserving winner of the Bavarian Sport Award 2017," added Seehöfer.

Lahm captained Germany in 2014 when they won the World Cup in Brazil and. last term, he led FC Bayern to an eighth German league title and in 2013 he secured the treble of Bundesliga title, DFB Cup and the Champions League for FCB. The right back reliably performed a crucial role for FC Bayern and Germany for over a decade.

This is not the first Bavarian Sports Award for Lahm. In 2009 he received the honour in the category of 'Top athlete plus' for his commitment to a foundation involved in helping disadvantaged children in Germany and Africa.
