There was a great honour for FC Bayern München on Thursday as Jörg Wacker, head of internationalisation and strategy, took part in football talks between Germany and China in Berlin. The meeting was part of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Germany. Also present in Berlin were DFB president Reinhard Grindel, Germany coach Joachim Löw and DFL chief executive Christian Seifert.
“I was very impressed with how engaged Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mrs Merkel were in the topic,” said Wacker. “It’s also now clear on a political level that we were right to place China as a key market in our global strategy. FC Bayern München can make a relevant contribution to the development football in China with its new office in Shanghai and its existing sporting, economic and social partnerships.”
A week on Sunday FC Bayern will head off for the Audi Summer Tour (16-28 July). They’ll play a total of four games in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Singapore.
