Neuer nominated for UEFA award

Manuel Neuer has been shortlisted as one of the candidates for the best goalkeeper of last season’s Champions League. Neuer has been nominated alongside Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus) and Jan Oblák (Atletico Madrid), UEFA announced on Friday. There are three candidates for each position – goalkeeper, defence, midfield and attack – with former Bayern midfielder Toni Kroos among the nominees. The judging panel costs of 32 coaches from the 32 teams that took place in the Champions League group stage last season, as well as 55 journalists. The winners will be announced on 24 August in Monaco during the draw for this year’s group stage.

Lahm becomes a father again

Former Bayern captain Philipp Lahm and his wife Claudia have had their second child. “This morning we welcomed little Lenia into the world!” wrote the 33 year-old, who retired in the summer, on Facebook. Mother and daughter are doing well. “Julian is looking forward to having a little sister! I’m very happy about our second summer baby!”
