Paris St. Germain were forced to settle for a point before the Champions League matchup against Bayern. PSG, second in Ligue 1 last year, could only manage a goalless draw against Montpellier without superstar Neymar. With 19 points from seven games PSG are top of the French league, ahead of current champions AS Monaco, who have 18 points.

On the French Mediterranean coast the fans got to see what was at times a muddled game. PSG were the more active of the two teams and they worked hard against a defensive opponent but failed to create clear chances. At the start of the second half Kylian Mbappé and Co looked more dangerous and the Parisians seemed to be all over the pitch, but struggled to make progress. The final push at the end was to no avail.

Neymar had to sit out because of a foot injury but there is no danger of the Brazilian missing Wednesday's game against FCB. Angel di Maria was also missing because of a thigh problem. Against Montpellier Julian Draxler joined Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappé in an attacking trio. The German was subbed off after 66 minutes.

Paris team against Montpellier: Areola – Meunier (Dani Alves 71), Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Yuri - Verratti, Thiago Motta (Lo Celso 80), Rabiot – Draxler (Lucas Moura 66), Cavani, Mbappé
