Auf Wiedersehen Munich, bonjour Paris! On Tuesday morning, the FC Bayern squad departed for their Champions League group game against Paris Saint-Germain. Present in the cohort of 20 players was the recently unretired Tom Starke, who could feature against the unbeaten leaders of France’s Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday evening.
“We’re respectful of PSG, especially their attack. They have three world-class players up front,” explained FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge ahead of the team’s departure from Munich Airport when asked about the Parisians’ “MCN” attack of Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Neymar. “However, we have more experience in the Champions League,” Rummenigge highlighted.
Bayern have the chance to overtake PSG at the top of Group B with a victory. The teams sit level on points after FCB’s 3-0 win over Anderlecht and the Parisians’ 5-0 thrashing of Celtic in Glasgow. “I know our team and I’m convinced they’ll play well tomorrow. I’m sure they’ll be full of concentration and motivation in the game,” Rummenigge added.
At the same time, Rummenigge stressed, “We’re still only in the group stage. It’s not the Champions League final tomorrow. There’s still the return fixture, so tomorrow isn’t all about topping the group. We want to perform well and give us the best chance of winning the group.”
Following the team’s arrival in Paris at around midday, the team will first head to their hotel in the city centre. At 18:00CEST, coach Carlo Ancelotti, Mats Hummels and Corentin Tolisso will take part in the press conference at the Parc des Princes before the team have their final training session ahead of the game on Wednesday.
