The Bavarians were self-critical after the 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. "We had a bad start. After the early opener we had to change our strategy completely," commented boss Carlo Ancelotti after the final whistle. Joshua Kimmich too rated the opener crucial, but pointed out more factors.
Reaction to Paris v Bayern
Carlo Ancelotti: "We had a bad start. After the early opener we had to change our strategy completely. We had to take control, and we had chances too. But it wasn't so easy after the goal, that was the problem. We didn't have the right balance, their counter-attacks were too strong."
Niklas Süle: "We were well-prepared, we trained well this week, and we had ambitious plans. Then you concede against a top team in a stunning atmosphere early on, you have to look for a reply then, and I think we did. We were the better team in the first half but lacked punch. We knew Paris are a great team, but we mustn't concede an early goal so easily. It was fatal. After that it was difficult of course."
Thomas Müller: "We fell behind after barely 90 seconds, that certainly wasn't our plan. Then they allowed us to play. I don't know if they had planned to allow so much space and so many corners. But we failed to make the most of the space. We weren't resolute enough when playing vertically from midfield. It was hard after conceding the goals."
Arjen Robben: "We had very ambitious plans, we were confident before the match. I don't know how many crosses and corners we had, but you know their counters are highly dangerous. They were very effective, scoring three goals. We have to close ranks."
Joshua Kimmich: "Conceding an early goal like this is the worst that can happen. We turned in a decent display then, Paris were passive and allowed us to play our own game at times. Nonetheless we failed to create gilt-edged chances. We aren't really effective up front. We have to find a solution."
Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain forward): "FC Bayern turned in a good display and caused us problems at times. The first goal was the main difference, it gives you the chance to set the right direction early on. It makes the difference in the Champions League."
