‘Great that it’s happening so early’

“I feel great,” said a grinning Sebastian Rudy, speaking about his early weeks at Bayern in Thursday’s press conference. The midfielder has become an integral figure at the German record champions in a very short amount of time. The 27-year-old knows why he has settled into his new team so successfully: “I’m an outgoing person so I’ve had no real problems. I’ve tried to slot into the team and get to know everyone.”

Rudy clearly feels comfortable in Munich and with his new surroundings. He wants to demonstrate this on Saturday when he faces his former teammates. “It’s great that so early in the season we’ve come to the point where I can play against my old friends,” said the German international.

'Work hard every day'

Rudy wore the Hoffenheim shirt for seven years and made 195 appearances for the men from the Kreichgau region in the south-west of the country. No wonder that this game is special for him. The same applies to Niklas Süle, who played 108 times for Hoffenheim in his seven and a half years there. During this time Rudy became Hoffenheim’s star player and he’s now a key member of the Germany squad.

Rudy hasn’t earned this status in Munich yet, but at Bayern the Confederation Cup winner is determined “to take on more responsibility, because at this club, there’s nowhere to hide”. Rudy won’t rest on his laurels, but instead will “work hard every day so things go as well as before.”
