Football fans will long remember the first visit FC Bayern paid to RB Leipzig. FCB travelled to the Red Ball Arena for matchday 33 on 13 May 2017 with nothing to play for. Bayern were already champions and Leipzig were sure of finishing in a Champions League slot. What followed was an unbeatable extravaganza.
Nine goals, each better than the preceding one and crowned by Arjen Robben's solo run to score the winner for Bayern in the fifth minute of added time. In addition, both teams played high tempo football and produce the finest of moves that would thrill any fan. For example Thiago on 30 minutes: A pinpoint cross into the box from Juan Bernat was controlled by the Spaniard with his chest as he set himself an overhead kick. The goal wouldn't have counted because Thiago was in an offside position and Peter Gulasci was able to make the block. The fans enjoyed it nevertheless.
The Reds travel to Saxony again on Wednesday for the second round DFB Cup tie away to RB Leipzig. The prospects of another spectacular match are good as both teams are in form and definitely aim to get through to the last 16.
