Javi Martínez suffered an injury to his right shoulder joint during Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Freiburg. That’s the conclusion of a thorough examination from the FC Bayern medical team. The Spaniard will now be treated carefully and will begin an individual recovery and training programme.
The 29 year-old had to be substituted in the 70th minute of the 5-0 win having been one of Bayern’s most impressive players up to that point. Deployed by Heynckes as a defensive midfielder alongside his compatriot Thiago, Martínez won 77% of his tackles and had an impressive pass completion rate of 95%. He also contributed to the attacking play and had three attempts at goal.
“Javi and Thiago were impressive in midfield; Javi with his defensive qualities and Thiago with his creativity, the way he looks after the ball and his vision. That was excellent,” praised Heynckes after his first game back in charge.
