The Bavarians returned to winning ways in the Champions League, beating Celtic 3-0 on Wednesday. "We played quite well for long spells," commented head coach Jupp Heynckes, who was satisfied but not euphoric. However, one aspect annoyed the Bavarians.
Reaction to Bayern v Celtic
Jupp Heynckes: "We turned in a good display for long spells. We failed to make use of a myriad of chances, allowing too many chances at the back. We'll have to address and improve it. It was necesssary to be buoyed. I can feel the team are very motivated."
Thomas Müller: "Our attitude was right, we were motivated after the victory over Freiburg, we wanted to keep up the momentum and take three points in front of a full house. So we hit the gas from the off and tried to make use of the space we got. You could tell we were attack-minded even if we should have created more chances."
Arjen Robben: "It was good, it was another step. We wanted to go onto the front foot, we kept a clean sheet twice, it's important to regain stability. We're on a good path."
Jérôme Boateng: "We started well, created lots of chances and could have scored more goals. The first half was better, we were too sloppy in the second, we made too many mistakes. We still could have scored more goals. You can tell we're enjoying football."
Brendan Rodgers (Celtic coach): "We had some good moves in the second half. We tried to play as we had wanted, we tried to play vertically. You have to acknowledge our opponents' quality. We didn't defend our box well, we can do better. Nevertheless we're looking forward to the return match at Celtic Park. It's still our goal to be in this competition after Christmas."
