Die Roten against the Reds! FC Bayern against Liverpool FC! The two clubs have both won the European Cup five times and have 45 league titles between them. The fans have gone 16 years without seeing this fixture in a European competition, but a match is now planned for the former greats of the two historic clubs: On 24 March 2018 FC Bayern Legends will line up against Liverpool Legends at Anfield for a good cause.
“It’s a special experience for everyone who gets to play in front of the impressive backdrop of Anfield. And our fans once again have the chance to see their former idols play,” commented Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The match was officially confirmed at a press conference on Monday in Liverpool, with Bixente Lizarazu and Martin Demichelis representing FCB.
The FC Bayern team will include the two former defenders plus the likes of Giovane Elber, Owen Hargreaves and Luca Toni. The Liverpool team, supervised by Ian Rush, will include famous names Robbie Fowler, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Luis Garcia and Vladimir Smicer. Xabi Alonso will feature for both teams.
FC Bayern and the Liverpool FC Foundation will donate all proceeds from the match to charitable causes.
