Karl Hopfner was managing director, board member, senior vice-president and president of FC Bayern, and he now has the title of honorary member. At Friday evening’s AGM, president Uli Hoeneß, first vice-president Prof. Dr. Dieter Mayer and second vice-president Walter Mennekes presented Hopfner with an official deed and applied the club’s pin of honour. The members present at the Audi Dome applauded and rose from their seats.
“Karl Hopfner has helped shape this club for three decades,” said Hoeneß, paying tribute to his fellow executive committee and board member of many years. “Whenever we needed Karl, he was there. He was immensely valuable in realising the elite youth performance centre project. If anyone has earned this, it’s Karl Hopfner.” After 33 years in a variety of management roles at the club, Hopfner stepped down a year ago.
