“Servus Franck!” was the most commonly heard greeting around Säbener Straße on Wednesday morning as the Bayern team welcomed back Franck Ribery to training. The Frenchman, who suffered an injury to his left knee at Hertha Berlin in early October, was talking part in his first training session with the whole squad. The game against Augsburg on Saturday is likely to come too soon for the 34-year-old, but his involvement was yet another important step on the road to comeback.
Bernat feels ready
“Perhaps I can be a part of the next match,” said Juan Bernat in contrast. The Spaniard is yet to feature for the German champions this season after suffering an ankle injury during the pre-season Audi Summer Tour, but he is hopeful of a return against Augsburg. “I feel good. I still have some small pain but that’s normal after three and a half months out,” said the left-back, before adding, “I think I’m about 90 per cent.” Bernat’s return will give coach Jupp Heynckes further options for the left flank.
