Bayern were two down at the break, and despite hard work and Arturo Vidal's goal in the second half they fell to Borussia Mönchengladbach. "We lost the match in the first half," said Jupp Heynckes after the 2-1 defeat: "We invested far too little then."
Reaction to Borussia Mönchengladbach v FC Bayern
Jupp Heynckes: "We lost the match in the first half, we invested far too little then. We were too slow, failed to up the pace and didn't really find our rhythm. But it was one-way traffic in the second half. Mönchengladbach only had one chance on the break in injury time and nothing else. But they were clever in defence. My team invested a lot, they were hard-running and created some chances."
Niklas Süle: "Apart from the penalty Gladbach had only one chance in the first half. We conceded two goals in five minutes, first the penalty and the second when we weren't focused and lost the plot a bit. Apart from that we enjoyed more of the ball, and it's a pity we lost. We did everything but it wasn't enough."
Dieter Hecking (Borussia Mönchengladbach coach): "The victory is a real boost for us. Our plan was to play with passion. We closed down the space, and we had luck at the right moments. I'd have liked more possession in the second half, Bayern almost camped out in our half then."
Yann Sommer (Borussia Mönchengladbach keeper): "It was hard work against a very, very good team. We knew we wouldn't have many chances, and apart from Raffael's first one we made the most of them. We were very efficient and defended and fought very well. There were difficult spells for us, but I think at the end of the day it was a more or less deserved victory. We were a bit lucky in some situations but you just need that luck."
