Starke to start against Köln

Tom Starke will be in goal for FC Bayern when play their final home league game of the year against 1. FC Köln on Wednesday evening (20:30 CET kick-off, live Ticker and Webradio). On the eve of the match, Jupp Heynckes confirmed that the 36 year-old will again deputise for Sven Ulreich, who is “almost pain-free” after his adductor injury but will not be risked. “It’s better that he builds up again slowly,” stressed the FCB head coach. Ulreich is set to return in goal on Saturday against his former club Stuttgart.

Slight doubts remain over Mats Hummels and Kingsley Coman. Hummels has not trained fully over the last two days because of a cold, but Heynckes expects the centre-back to take part in the final session before the game on Wednesday “and be in the squad”. Coman is nursing a slight adductor problem and only did jogging on Tuesday. “It was fine,” reported Heynckes. “I expect him to be in the squad tomorrow and it’s highly likely he’ll be able to play too.”

However, a bit more patience is required with Arjen Robben. The Dutchman, who has an issue with his sciatic nerve, is doing “significantly better,” reported Heynckes. Manuel Neuer, Thiago, Juan Bernat and Christian Früchtl remain sidelined.
