Wagner: "It makes it easy for you"
A cross from James, a header from Wagner – Goal! It was a perfect debut for Sandro Wagner at the training camp in Doha as he got his name on the scoresheet in just his first game after his return to Bayern. And there could have been more if it had not been for the frame of the goal and the opposition goalkeeper denying him on three occasions.
“I think it was a good game after a hard week’s training with some really intense sessions,” said Wagner after the 6-0 win over Al-Ahli on Saturday evening. “We had some good plays and everyone’s kept fit. We could’ve scored even more if we’d all been fresher.”
“He gives his all”
The 30-year-old can be pleased with his first 45 minutes back in an FCB kit following his return at the start of the month. Playing as a target man and a poacher, he was constantly sought out by his teammates and had even convinced in the prior training sessions. “I think we’ve gotten a good striker. He’s really ambitious and gives his all,” stated Jerome Boateng. David Alaba added, “I think he already feels at home here. He’s fitted in brilliantly.”
Wagner also received positive feedback from his coach. “Sandro has settled in really well,” reported Jupp Heynckes. “He was really active and has always shown himself in a positive light in training. I think he can be an important player for us.”
Wagner confirmed the impressions from his teammates and coach. “I feel good,” he said on his integration into the team on and off the pitch shortly before the end of the training camp in Doha. “They’re all really good players. It makes it easy to find your feet.” And scoring a goal right away will not do any harm there either.
