FC Bayern to stage testimonial match for Bastian Schweinsteiger

On Tuesday 28 August 2018 a Bayern Munich great will return to the Allianz Arena: Bastian Schweinsteiger will officially say farewell to FC Bayern and the club’s fans with a match against his current club Chicago Fire.

“Bastian Schweinsteiger had an extraordinary career and left his mark on a highly successful era for FC Bayern. In addition he was an important member of the Bayern family with his strong personality, and will always remain so. There was absolutely no doubt that Bayern Munich would say thank you with a testimonial match,” stated FC Bayern München AG chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

“I’m really looking forward to walking back out at the Allianz Arena and hopefully meeting lots of fans who’ve been there since the start of my career,” commented Bastian Schweinsteiger. “I’m especially looking forward to seeing the fans on the south terrace, as we’ve always had a great relationship”.

Schweinsteiger joined the Bayern academy aged 13 and spent a total of 17 years with Germany’s record champions, winning a host of trophies including the German title eight times, the DFB Cup seven times and the German Supercup twice. The pinnacle of his club career was the unforgettable victory in the Champions League and the unique treble in 2013, in which Schweinsteiger played a vital role as vice-captain. The crowning glory of his career came in Rio de Janeiro in 2014, where he became a World Cup winner as Germany vice-captain.

In 2015 Bastian Schweinsteiger sought a new challenge in England and signed for Manchester United where he won the FA Cup in 2016. He has been with his current club Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer in the US since 2017.

Schweinsteiger will play one half for each team and is very grateful for the support from both clubs: “I especially want to thank Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß, as well as Andrew Hauptman and Nelson Rodrìguez from Chicago Fire for making the testimonial match possible.”

Tickets for the match are available now from www.fcbayern.com/de/tickets.
