The Bayern players were wrapped up warm in hats, scarves and gloves as they braved the freezing temperatures in Munich. The players who did not start in the previous evening’s 6-0 win at Paderborn were in training, including two who hadn’t even travelled to North Rhine-Westphalia: Thiago and Javi Martínez.
The pair were fully integrated back into training on Wednesday. For Thiago, it was his first full session with the team following his 11-week lay-off due to a thigh injury. Martinez also completed the session having sprained his ankle in training last Friday. Jerome Boateng, who missed the Paderborn match due to a stomach bug, worked individually with Peter Hermann.
Müller in the pool
For the rest of the squad, regeneration in the performance centre was the order of the day. Particularly so for Thomas Müller, who was forced off with a thigh injury after half an hour in the cup tie. The skipper was treated and took part in some aqua jogging.
Bayern are already looking ahead to their upcoming tasks. “We’re playing well and scoring lots of goals. We need to carry on that way,” commented Corentin Tolisso. “We have important games coming up, starting on Saturday against Schalke. We have big challenges ahead and we’re ready for them.”
