After an 18-match unbeaten run, Bayern suffered their first defeat of 2018 with their 2-1 loss at RB Leipzig. “We didn’t play as well as in recent weeks. Leipzig deserved to win,” declared Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes after the final whistle. “We couldn’t get into the game at all,” admitted goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.
Reaction to Leipzig vs. Bayern
Jupp Heynckes: “We faced an excellent opponent today. We have to acknowledge that. Leipzig were really aggressive and ran hard to press us. We didn’t play as well as in recent weeks. Leipzig deserved to win. There are always games like today when you’re not at your best and don’t defend well.”
Sven Ulreich: “We couldn’t get into the game at all and lost the ball unnecessarily. We didn’t have control. Leipzig pressed well and then came forward quickly after winning the ball. We weren’t as alert as usual and a bit too passive. We couldn’t pass the ball properly and lacked calmness in our play.”
Ralf Rangnick (RB Leipzig sporting director): “Bar the first 10 minutes, we dominated the game in every respect. The only thing we could’ve done better was to score more goals. Everything about the team today was class and they were incredibly strong physically.”
