Seven Reds in Germany squad

Seven Bayern players have been included in Germany’s first squad of this World Cup year. Thomas Müller, Jérôme Boateng, Mats Hummels, Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Süle, Sebastian Rudy and Sandro Wagner are in Joachim Löw’s 26-man squad for the friendlies against Spain (23 March in Düsseldorf) and Brazil (27 March in Berlin).

“We deliberately want to have a big group of players as we begin World Cup preparations,” said Löw. “Obviously we know that the clubs have crucial weeks coming up. That has priority for them at the moment, which makes it more important that they know what’s important to us before we name the final World Cup squad. Success and performance come above everything else.”

The Germany coach will announce his preliminary squad for the tournament in Russia on 15 May.

Corentin Tolisso (France) and Thiago (Spain) were also called up by their national teams on Friday.
