Concern for trio

The semi-final first leg was an extremely bitter affair for FC Bayern. Three players sustained knocks in the 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid. Jupp Heynckes was forced into his first change after only eight minutes. Arjen Robben had to be subbed off after a collision in Real's box. "We're hoping it's not so bad," the head coach commented after the final whistle.

The next setback came after 33 minutes, when Jérôme Boateng had to be replaced after setting off on a charging run. "It's a muscular problem in Jérôme's case, he'll probably miss out," explained the 72-year-old. Javi Martínez took a knock in the 75th minute. "Javi suffered a blow to his temple and was woozy," said Heynckes, who was unable to tell if the trio will be available for selection in the return leg: "We don't want to speculate, we'll have to wait for the examination tomorrow." On Thursday thorough examinations will reveal how severe the knocks are. "We'll give it everything in Madrid," a defiant Heynckes said.
