FC Bayern have signed youngster Lars Lukas Mai on a long-term professional contract. The 18-year-old centre-back inked a pro contract through 30 June 2021 at the Säbener Strasse on Friday.
Mai, who has been playing for FC Bayern since the summer of 2014, made his pro debut away to Hannover last Saturday. "We're very happy we've secured the services of a highly talented player, Lukas Mai, over the long term," said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. "Lukas has demonstrated his potential in his debut in Hannover on Saturday, in numerous training sessions with the pros and in our youth teams. We have a lot of trust in his abilities."
"I'm very glad about this big chance. It's always been my dream to play for FC Bayern. Now I want to continue to work hard to take the next steps in my career," said Mai after inking his contract.
Last season he lead the U-17s to the German championship title as captain. He has played for the U-19s this season, making 23 U-19 Bundesliga appearances and six UEFA Youth League and two youth cup appearances. Besides, he made one appearance for the reserves in the Regionalliga. He has been U-19s captain since the winter break.
