Bayern created numerous chances against Real Madrid, but a second goal refused to come for the Bavarians. Jupp Heynckes and his players are convinced they can correct the result in Madrid.
Reaction to Bayern v Real
Jupp Heynckes: "The completely unnecessary equaliser before half-time was the turning point. We gave it away, just like Madrid's second goal. Taken altogether I have to say I've rarely seen my team create so many chances in a Champions League match or a semi-final but fail to convert them. It's very rare, and it was unusual that a team like Real allowed so much. But we failed to take our chances, we were too inefficient. We'll try everything in Madrid to correct to result from the first leg."
Thomas Müller: "It's bitter if someone has to leave at the beginning, followed by another one. But we compensated well, we were in the game midway through the first half. Taken altogether we were too naive and didn't finish our moves well. We had so many chances, I smiled sardonically when it was 1-1 at half-time. We could have achieved much, much more. We contributed to Real's 2-1 victory, it hurts. We just didn't score the goals. But last year we had more problems here. Everything's still at stake in the return leg, everything's possible. We should have scored a much better result today."
Joshua Kimmich: "We just didn't convert our chances. Real took two shots and scored two goals. Of course Real are slight favourites because they won 2-1 on the road."
Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid coach): "We can be very pleased and satisfied with the result. It's not easy to win in Munich, we know that. We're satisfied, but we know we'll have to suffer in the return leg to achieve our goal. After the match against Juve we know we have to turn in a different display, otherwise it'll be tough."
Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid captain): "We knew what awaited us. We did a good job, we turned in a strong display and were very solid in defence. It wasn't easy, Bayern are tough opponents. We'll have to watch out in the return leg and stay very calm. It was an evenly-balanced match."
Toni Kroos (Real Madrid): "Bayern caused us big problems today but we weathered them. It's a very good result. It was a match on a par. Perhaps Bayern were even a little better, but we took our chances, which made the difference at the end of the day."
