The team faced the south terrace, celebrating Bayern's 28th championship title with the fans. The home faithful demanded one man mount the fence to introduce the traditional Humba victory chant: Sven Ulreich. Beaming, the goalkeeper proceeded, visibly enjoying the fans' tribute.
"I was extremely delighted that the fans demanded me and that I was allowed to mount the fence. It's a real honour. It really was a beautiful moment," said the 29-year-old, who had earned the tribute with outstanding performances over the whole season. After Manuel Neuer's severe injury the backup keeper was the centre of attention and excelled.
"The season went superbly for me," reviewed Ulreich: "I've made many appearances and could often help my team. Perhaps it's been the best season of my life so far." Bayern's number 26 featured between the sticks in 29 out of 34 matches, keeping 12 clean sheets. The fans named Ulreich Player of the Month three times this season. Thomas Müller even called the shot-stopper "Man of the Year," Neuer showering him with beer in the middle of a TV interview. But the crowning glory came when the Allianz Arena chanted in unison: "Ulreich on the fence!"
