Good news at the start of the final week of training in the current campaign: David Alaba and Kingsley Coman join Manuel Neuer in completing the whole session on Tuesday morning as the FC Bayern squad start preparations for next Saturday's DFB Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt in Berlin.
Bayern are looking to give their all to provide their coach with a fitting farewell as he ends his career after the cup final. "We definitely want to win the double for Jupp Heynckes and we’ll do all we can to achieve that at the weekend," promised Sandro Wagner on behalf of the whole team. After the setback in the final league match against VfB Stuttgart, Mats Hummels is sure the record champions will perform in the capital.
"A different Bayern team will play in Berlin compared with the Stuttgart game. From Tuesday, we will prepare perfectly for the coming challenge," announced Heynckes. There was full focus on the training ground. Juan Bernat, Arjen Robben and Jérôme Boateng were at work on neighbouring pitches. In addition to long-term injury Arturo Vidal, Corentin Tolisso (individual session in performance centre) and Rafinha (ankle) were missing but are expected to return to training on Wednesday. For the rest of the squad there was an intensive session lasting 90 minutes after two days off. And Heynckes liked what he saw. "Very good, men," was his verdict on the way back to the dressing room.
