Heynckes: One of those days

FC Bayern suffered their first home defeat of term in the final Bundesliga match of the season. After Jupp Heynckes bade farewell to the crowd at the Allianz Arena the German record champions lost 4-1 to VfB Stuttgart. "It was an annoying defeat today. We wanted to turn in a good display, for the coach too," commented keeper Sven Ulreich.

Reaction to Bayern v Stuttgart

Jupp Heynckes: "Congratulations to VfB Stuttgart! They turned in a top display with many counters and deservedly won at the end of the day. VfB were very well-organised, they were great in defence. We had three gilt-edged chances when it was 1-1, we failed to take them. If you're up against a top-class defence you have to take the lead so your opponents have to change their tactics. It was one of those days. Now we have to accept and stomach the defeat and prepare for the cup final as best we can from Tuesday. We'll see a different Bayern team in Berlin."

Thomas Müller: "Nobody displayed the mentality that's led us to the championship title. It's a bit disappointing."

Sven Ulreich: "It's a nice feeling to be presented with the shield today. We've worked hard, and I'm glad I've played my part. It was an annoying defeat today. We wanted to turn in a good display, for the coach too. We have to analyse it well and do better in the cup next week."

Niklas Süle: "It's a nice day today even though we turned in a poor display, myself included. The first championship title is something special. We had some good periods today and were dominant for 20 minutes before the break. We had our chance but then conceded the second goal. It was a strange match."

Tayfun Korkut (VfB Stuttgart coach): "We have to congratulate FC Bayern, for the season, for the championship title. We saw a very well-organised VfB team today. We wanted to needle them and were highly effective in taking our chances. That's how you achieve a result like this."

Holger Badstuber (VfB Stuttgart): "It's incredible, we played superbly. It was a top display, we didn't ease off. It's very, very nice."
