The 2017/18 season was an excellent one for Kingsley Coman. The Frenchman had scored seven goals and provided another eight assists by the end of February, but then an ankle injury halted him in his tracks and the winger did not return again until late in the DFB Cup final. However, he’s back on the pitch now and wants to build on his form prior to the injury.

“I was doing well at the time. I'm feeling better and better now but will still need time to get back to my best,” the 22-year-old said. In order to ensure that does not take too long, Coman has been working on his fitness during the summer and was one of the top three performers in the Bayern squad’s fitness tests at the start of this week. It meant he was racing past opponents once again on Friday in training despite having already completed a number of strenuous exercises.

After two tough days, the forward now has the afternoon off from training. It is perfect timing for Coman so he can watch his nation face Uruguay in the FIFA World Cup quarter-final. Even though his injury ruled him out of a place in Russia, the Frenchman is following Les Bleus’ games with even more excitement as a fan and is in regular contact with his teammate Corentin Tolisso. “The team has played well so far, and I think they can win it.”
