Tolisso has 'reached the summit of world football'

The Équipe Tricolore showed how to celebrate. After the 4-2 win in the World Cup final against Croatia to secure their second title win following 1998, the journey from the Luzhniki Stadium back to the team hotel turned into a noisy triumphal procession. The joyous party carried on at the team HQ into the small hours with the recurrent chant of 'Allez, allez, allez.' And the Bayern pro Corentin Tolisso was in the thick of it.

“I’d like to pass on heartfelt congratulations to our player Corentin Tolisso on behalf of everybody at FC Bayern München for winning the 2018 World Cup. We’re all really happy for Coco for reaching the summit of world football with France,” said FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in praise of the midfielder following in the footsteps of Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels and Co.

Fitting reception after his break

“I think France were the best team at the World Cup in Russia and Corentin Tolisso made a considerable contribution over the course of the whole tournament,” added Rummenigge. The 23-year-old appeared in five of France’s seven games clocking up 194 minutes on the pitch. He particularly stood out in the quarter-final 2-0 victory over Uruguay with involvement in both goals.

FC Bayern are “proud of having a current World Cup winner in Corentin Tolisso,” declared Rummenigge. The German record champions will give Tolisso “a fitting reception in Munich on his return from a well-deserved break,” the chairman announced.
