There was a full house at Bayern training on Sunday morning following the DFB Cup win over SV Drochtersen/Assel. With the kids off school, wonderful weather and the first public training session of the season at Säbener Straße, almost 2,500 fans turned out at the FCB training ground. They used the chance for a closer look at Leon Goretzka, Corentin Tolisso and the other players who didn’t start on Saturday.
And those present were treated to a great show with some excellent goals and moments, as well as the signing of autographs and a few selfies after the session. There was also a welcome sight on one of the neighbouring pitches as David Alaba returned to action for the first time since bruising his knee in the closing minutes of the Supercup the previous week.
Together with fitness and rehabilitation coach Thomas Wilhelmi, the Austrian took his recovery to the next level with ball and running drills. “I feel great, my knee has recovered well,” Alaba declared afterwards. “I’ll re-join team training next week and give my all,” the full-back added. It means he is still in with a chance of featuring in the Bundesliga opener on Friday.
