When Niko Kovac stepped out of the changing room for training on Thursday morning, he saw the pleasing sight of players already hard at work on a neighbouring pitch. Kingsley Coman was sprinting with the ball at his feet and slaloming through posts. The Frenchman was completing his individual session and taking a large step forward in his recovery programme.
And Coman wasn’t alone out there with Arjen Robben also putting in laps around the pitches at Säbener Straße. The Dutchman had spent the previous days training in the performance centre because of a knee problem. It meant Kovac was in a very good mood even before the planned session began.
And even that was to his liking as his players set about their work with full effort and concentration. It’s clear that Bayern aren’t letting the gap to the top of the table bring them down but instead make up the distance as quickly as possible. “It’s a challenge and one that we have to set ourselves. We absolutely want to be German champions,” stressed Sandro Wagner, while Javi Martinez echoed his striker’s sentiments: “We only thinking about the trophy. We’ll give everything.”
