The eyes of Giuseppe Armenia, Jürgen Zöggeler, Walter Weithaler, Markus Mazoll and Stefan Gander lit up when Javi Martinez, Sandro Wagner and Kingsley Coman entered the table football arena of the Paulaner brewery in Langwied, Munich. The six Bayern fans from South Tyrol had qualified for the chance to face Wagner & co. through the Paulaner fan dream campaign “kick deines Lebens” - Kick of your life.
In teams of two, the table football experts took on the Bayern players - and left them no chance. The visitors from Italy won every match, earning the respect of the FCB footballers. “They were really impressive. I don’t know what they’ve been doing the last few weeks. Probably at a training camp,” said an astounded Wagner of his competitors.
Taking their minds of training for happy fans
The Bayern trio had to take the defeats on the chin, but definitely enjoyed taking their minds off training for a brief period. “It was really fun,” Martinez enthused, while Coman wished to make clear that it wasn’t his first time playing table football. “I used to play a lot in the academy lodging,” said the winger, whose hours of practice in his youth were clear to see as he constantly caused his opponents problems.
In the end, however, it was the visitors who prevailed and left the brewery smiling from ear to ear. It was a special experience for them. A fan’s dream come true.
