Late win for Austria, Portugal secure top spot

Spearheaded by Bayern's David Alaba, Austria concluded their UEFA Nations League group stage campaign with a 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland at Windsor Park in Belfast on Sunday evening. Xaver Schlager handed the visitors a 49th-minute lead, but Corry Evans levelled just before the hour. In the dying embers of the match, Alaba brilliantly seized possession in midfield and initiated the move from which Valentino Lazaro netted the deserved winner in the third minute of added time. The Austrians thus finished second in Group B3 on 7 points, behind Bosnia (10 points) but comfortably ahead of relelgated Northern Ireland (0 points).

No Sanches as Portuguese seal group win

Elsewhere, Portugal battled their way to a goalless draw against Italy on Saturday evening, but Renato Sanches did not feature. The point in Milan ensures the European champions claim top spot in Group A3 and a place in the finals of the UEFA Nations League.
