FC Bayern beat AEK Athens 2-0 on Wednesday, taking a giant stride towards the Champions League last sixteen. "It was a deserved victory. We completely shut them out," a satisfied Niko Kovac said after the final whistle. The Bavarians turned in a good display but do not want to rest on their laurels. "We were in control but we can play better of course. We'll be better in the next match," declared Robert Lewandowski after bagging a brace.
Reaction to Bayern v AEK
Niko Kovac: "It was a deserved victory. We completely shut them out. Our opponents only had one chance over 90 minutes, right at the start. We should have rewarded ourselves for our work in the second half, we should have scored two, three more. I'm satisfied with the result. It wasn't a goal fest but that wasn't to be expected. We wanted to win the match. We now have ten points, and we have a very good chance of going through to the next round."
Robert Lewandowski: "It was a Champions League match today. We know the last two matches weren't perfect but it was a good step forward today. We were in control but we can play better of course. We'll be better in the next match. But we can't beat all our opponents is dazzling style. This success is good for me, for the team and for our confidence. It was a good display even if we lacked certain things. We want to do better on Saturday."
Marinos Ouzounidis (AEK coach): "My team played well. We wanted to press on the wings to create space. We didn't want to just defend because it's obvious that opponents like these create chances when you lose possession. Of course we could have made life more difficult for Bayern. But taken altogether I think it was a decent display. We conceded the penalty too easily but I'm satisfied."
