Arjen Robben's footballing start to the new year hasn't exactly been satisfactory. While his teammates have already completed several strenuous sessions at the winter training camp in Doha, the 34-year-old winger has had to make do with an individually tailored training programme due to the consequences of overexerting the muscles in his thigh.
"Unfortunately, Arjen Robben hasn’t yet been able to train with the squad, but he is on the right track. We'll have to wait and see how the situation develops. He's trained a lot with weights and with the ball on the pitch. I talked to the doctors and physios, and we'll just have to see," sports director Hasan Salihamidzic remarked on Wednesday in Doha.
Robben has been plagued with persistent thigh problems since the end of November. His last game was in the 5-1 Champions League win against Benfica, where he scored two goals. However, he missed the last six competitive games before the winter break due to muscular problems.
