Sandro Wagner is leaving FC Bayern to join Tianjin Teda, who finished 14th in the Chinese Super League last season, with immediate effect. The 31-year-old played in the FC Bayern youth teams for 11 years, for the reserves for two years and for the senior squad for a total of two years. The forward asked the Bayern officials to terminate his contract that was due to run until 2020.
“Sandro approached us and asked us to release him from his contract. He has a very attractive offer from China, so we granted his request. We would like to express our thanks to Sandro for his time at FC Bayern, and we wish him all the best and a lot of success for his future in China,” said Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
The Munich-born striker, who has also played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Hertha Berlin, SV Darmstadt and TSG Hoffenheim, made a total of 34 competitive appearances for FC Bayern, scoring 10 goals. He won the Bundesliga title in 2008 and 2018, the DFB Cup in 2008, the German League Cup in 2007 and the Supercup in 2018. He also won the European Championship with the Germany U-21s in 2009 and the Confederations Cup with the Germany senior squad in Russia in 2017. He has made eight senior appearances for Germany, scoring five goals.
