Sunday very much lived up to its name as the FC Bayern players and staff were welcomed to training at Säbener Straße by bright sunshine and spring temperatures. However, that wasn’t the only thing that lifted spirits as the Munich players saw Kingsley Coman completing an individual training regime away from the pitch while Niko Kovac was slowly putting the finishing touches to his team in preparation for Tuesday’s Champions League match at Liverpool (kick-off 21:00 CET).
The 22-year-old winger was working hard inside the performance centre before completing some laps outside. Just two days after taking a blow late in the 3-2 win at Augsburg, the Frenchman was back on the road to recovery. He’ll travel with the rest of the team to the UK on Monday and is an option for Kovac at Anfield.
Superb performance in Augsburg
Coman’s performance in Friday’s derby win proved how important he could be for Bayern in Liverpool. The winger scored twice and provided the assist for David Alaba’s winner, as well as striking the crossbar later on with a header. Following on from his winning goal in the DFB Cup win at Hertha Berlin earlier in the month, the Frenchman has played a huge part in two important Bayern victories inside just 10 days.
“You can simply see what an outstanding player he is and can be. Whenever he’s fit, he can make a huge difference,” said Mats Hummels after the game in Augsburg. Coach Kovac is also well aware of the rapid forward’s qualities. “We have a completely different dynamic with him, we have a completely different perception of the game,” said the 47-year-old.
