FC Bayern beat Augsburg 3-2 on Friday, enjoying a successful dress rehearsal for the Champions League cracker away to Liverpool on Tuesday. Niko Kovac' men had to work hard for the three points in the all-Bavaria derby. "It was a workmanlike but deserved victory," said the Bayern coach after his team had turned the tide despite going behind twice. "We were caught cold twice," said Manuel Neuer.
Reaction to Augsburg v Bayern
Niko Kovac: "We struggled to get into the game. I can't remember conceding a goal so early, that was very annoying. But we took on the fight, especially in the first half. It was more clear-cut in the second half. Taken altogether it was a workmanlike but deserved victory. Maybe some of us had Liverpool on their minds, that's possible. It's not good but human."
Manuel Neuer: "We wanted to defend well and keep a clean sheet again at last. Unfortunately we didn't achieve that. When we're without the ball it looks okay from the back but we were caught cold on the wings twice."
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg coach): "At the end of the day we're empty-handed. But the main point is that 11 players plus subs were out on the pitch and gave it everything. We've got a young team, they tried everything and pushed Bayern to their limits. All credit to my team."
Michael Gregoritsch (FC Augsburg): "It's important to fight, to toil in Augsburg. We did that against a very, very good Bayern team today. It's a shame we ended up empty-handed. The second eqauliser shortly before the break was unfortunate of course, it came at an awkward point. They faltered a bit towards the end but we failed to create any chances."
