Bayern rounded off a tough week, including the hard-fought goalless draw at Anfield, with a 1-0 victory over Hertha Berlin on Saturday. "We had to show willpower and the right mentality after the tough match away to Liverpool, and we did a really good job," Niko Kovac said in praise of his team. "We're satisfied," agreed sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Reaction to FCB v Hertha
Niko Kovac: "We won a very difficult match today. In recent years we didn't play well and squandered many points against Hertha. As a coach you think about how you can move a match like this in the right direction, and set pieces are weapons. Javi is always dangerous with his aerial prowess and his presence in the box, and it shows we did everything right once again. We had to show willpower and the right mentality after the tough match away to Liverpool, and we did a really good job. We rounded off a great week."
Hasan Salihamidzic: "It was a tough and exhausting week. In a way, the motto for the match was: Work smart, not hard. It was to be expected, the week was exhausting because of the trip. We're satisfied we've rounded it off successfully."
Pál Dárdai (Hertha Berlin coach): "We would have deserved a bit more today. At half-time I told my players the team to score the first goal will win the match."
Davie Selke (Hertha BSC): "It would have helped us to take the lead. Jo [Kimmich] cleared off the line. Bayern didn't have gilt-edged chances as they usually do at the Allianz Arena. I think that's telling. Bayern had to push to their limits to beat us. We can build on that."
