FC Bayern have taken the next step in their preparations for Saturday’s Bundesliga match at SC Freiburg. After the first training session of the week on Tuesday morning, coach Niko Kovac has welcomed back the club’s international players to Säbener Straße on Wednesday.
The German quintet of captain Manuel Neuer, Niklas Süle, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry all returned to training alongside striker Robert Lewandowski. The only international player therefore still missing was James Rodriguez after featuring in a friendly for Colombia in South Korea.
“The international players are back and we’ve had the first session together with almost all the players. Now it’s about turning our focus to the Bundesliga and DFB Cup,” said Neuer, who was serenaded by his teammates on his 33rd birthday. David Alaba, Arjen Robben and Alphonso Davies were also absent as they trained individually in the performance centre. In sessions on Thursday and Friday, the record champions will look to put the finishing touches to their preparations as they seek to defend top spot in the Bundesliga with three more points at Freiburg.
