Bayern away to Bremen in DFB Cup semi-final

FC Bayern still have one hurdle to overcome on their way to the final of the DFB Cup in Berlin - and that's Werder Bremen. The record champions must head to the north of Germany for the semi-final. Germany international Lena Goeßling handed the Reds this task at the draw on Sunday evening as part of the television channel ARD's sports show from the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The other finalist will be decided by the clash between Hamburger SV from Bundesliga 2 and RB Leipzig.

In total, Werder and Bayern have met eight times in the DFB Cup so far, and with seven wins and only one defeat, the record is clearly in Bayern's favour. Three of those seven meetings were in the final; in 1999 Bremen won the trophy in a penalty shootout. The last time the clubs met was in the semi-finals of the 2015/16 season, when Bayern won 2-0.

In the current competition Bayern knocked out the two regional league teams Rödinghausen (2-1) and SV Drochtersen/Assel (1-0), Hertha BSC (3-2 a.e.t.) and finally 1. FC Heidenheim (5-4) from Bundesliga 2. Bremen went through against Wormatia Worms (6-1), SC Weiche 08 (5-1), Borussia Dortmund (7-5 on penalties) and FC Schalke 04 (2-0) in the previous rounds.

The semi-finals will be played at 20.45 CET on 23 and 24 April. The final will take place in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on 25 May 2019.
