FC Bayern turned in a strong performance and created promising chances but narrowly missed out on an early championship triumph on Saturday. After the goalless draw against Leipzig the Bavarians can wrap up the 29th championship title at the Allianz Arena. "You could see the team wanted to win the match. They turned in a great display, they dominated the match and would have deserved to win," chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said after the final whistle. Coach Niko Kovac commented: "Unfortunately we didn't reward ourselves, but we saved that for next week. We'll play at home, and we'll seal the title there."
Reaction to Leipzig v Bayern
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "You could see the team wanted to win the match. They turned in a great display, they dominated the match and would have deserved to win. It was a very emotional match today, Leipzig are a very good team and they proved it today. We must be satisfied with the point, it doesn't worsen our situation. I think we'll have a good chance of sealing the championship title if the team turn in a similar display against Eintracht Frankfurt next Saturday."
Niko Kovac: "A compliment to my team, we did a really good job from the 20th minute. We were clearly dominant, we were completely in control and didn't allow anything. We stifled Leipzig's strengths and created chances. Unfortunately we didn't reward ourselves, but we saved that for next week. We'll play at home, and we'll seal the title there. It'll be a final for the championship title, the people in Munich haven't had that for years, even decades, so I'm convinced our fans will create a great atmosphere, which will boost our passion and will to win."
Thomas Müller: "We turned in a superb display in the second half. We absolutely wanted to win but didn't put it in. We achieved it once but it was offside by half a foot. Taken altogehter it's very annoying. We turned in one of our better performances in the Bundesliga this year. Unfortunately we didn't reward ourselves with a win and the championship title. But we have to turn in a similar perfomance at home next week. The greed is absolutely there. We have an absolute final next week. It'll be crunch time then."
Willi Orban (RB Leipzig captain): "We saw we can keep pace, but also that we can and should be bolder in attack. If so we'll have more space. The DFB Cup final will surely be different, we turned in a decent performance today but have room for improvement. We'd have liked to win, but we didn't take on any old team today."
Yussuf Poulsen (RB Leipzig): "We weren't so precise today. We had some good moves but the final or second-to-last pass wasn't precise enough."
