Team USA have won the eighth edition of the FC Bayern Youth Cup in the Allianz Arena. On the same hallowed turf where FC Bayern were crowned Bundesliga champions on Saturday, the North Americans celebrated the title after their 1-0 win over Germany in the final and were presented with their trophy by FCB legend Klaus Augenthaler. Third place went to China, who defeated two-time defending champions Thailand 2-1 in the third-place play-off.
Eight teams from seven different countries competed in front of around 3,500 spectators at the Allianz Arena to win the 2019 World Final. The fixtures in the two groups (four teams each) had already provided exciting and dramatic games, which were often decided by just one goal. The two eventual finalists, USA and Germany, progressed from group A, while Thailand and China advanced from Group B.
The big question now was whether Thailand could win the title for the third year in a row after 2017 and 2018. But their dream was shattered by a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Germany. In the second semi-final, the USA defeated China 3-0, while the rest of the teams played against each other according to where they finished in their respective groups. The thrilling final was the perfect climax to a great tournament in which the USA were the deserved Youth Cup winners. The Americans also provided the best goalkeeper in Nikola Antic and the best goal scorer of the tournament in Walisson Silva. Kroekphon Arbram from Team Thailand took the Most Valued Player award.
